Glik Polski

Privacy policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026. The app policy has applied since 28 July 2026.

In short

The Glik app has no accounts, collects no data about you, has no analytics or ads and does not track you. What you save stays on your phone and never reaches us.

The getglik.com website uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. We count visits with a cookieless tool that cannot recognise you from one day to the next (details below).

Who is responsible

The Glik app and this website are made and published by Mateusz Wyszogrodzki, a private individual, ul. Doroszewskiego 9/54, 93-140 Łódź, Poland, who is the service provider and the controller of the data described below. Contact: contact@getglik.com.

The app: what we don’t collect

The app does not collect or process your personal data. In particular:

What stays on your phone

The app saves in your phone’s storage:

We never send this data anywhere and have no access to it.

When the app uses the internet

In exactly three situations:

Each time we send only a request for products, with no sign-in and no identifiers. We include nothing about you or your device beyond the standard app identification (name, version, contact address) that the Open Food Facts terms require.

As with any internet connection, the server sees the IP address the request comes from. When you scan, that address goes to Open Food Facts and is covered by their privacy policy. Files from Glik’s site are served by GitHub Pages, so GitHub sees your IP address, which is covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement. We never receive these addresses. To avoid this, download the offline database once and then use the app without a connection.

Camera

Camera access is used only to read barcodes. The image is analysed on your phone in real time. We never save photos or recordings and never send them anywhere. You can withdraw camera permission at any time in your system settings, and you can always type a code in by hand.

Backups

Android. Automatic system backups are switched off on purpose, so the app’s data does not go to Google Drive.

iPhone. The app’s data can be part of your own device backup in iCloud or on a computer. That backup is made by iOS, not by Glik. Only you control it, and we have no access to it. You can switch off Glik’s iCloud backup in your iPhone’s iCloud settings, under device backups (the exact name depends on your iOS version).

Your own file. “Export data” in Settings saves your favourites, meal, history and custom products to a single file that only goes where you choose to save it. “Import data” reads it back in.

Deleting app data

Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all the data it keeps on your phone. You don’t need to ask us for anything, because we have no copy. A backup in iCloud or on your computer, if you have one, stays until you delete it yourself.

The getglik.com website

The website uses no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and has no forms, ads, social media buttons or content embedded from other services.

Hosting. The website is served by Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages). To deliver the pages and protect them from attacks, Cloudflare processes your IP address and technical request data (the page address, your browser, the time). Our legal basis is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in delivering the page you ask for and protecting the site from abuse. Cloudflare acts as our processor under its Customer Data Processing Addendum and keeps this data for the periods set out in its privacy policy. We keep no visit log of our own and have no access to this data.

Transfers outside the EEA. Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the USA, so requests may also be handled outside the European Economic Area. The transfer relies on the European Commission’s adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, in which Cloudflare participates, and as a fallback on the standard contractual clauses in its data processing addendum. This also applies to the statistics and email described below, as they pass through Cloudflare too.

Visit statistics. We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which runs on our own server. The server is reached through Cloudflare’s network, so statistics requests pass through Cloudflare as our processor. Plausible uses no cookies and no identifiers stored in your browser. To count unique visits it hashes your IP address and browser name with a random salt that changes every day. The IP address itself is never stored, and once the salt changes your visits on different days cannot be linked. We record: the page visited, the page you came from, your country, device type, browser and operating system, clicks on links that lead off the site (such as the store links), and whether someone used the portion example. The statistics are aggregated, cannot identify anyone, and we keep them for as long as we run the site. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in knowing how many people visit the site and where they come from. Blocking scripts on this site switches the statistics off, and the site keeps working.

When you write to us

If you write to contact@getglik.com, Cloudflare Email Routing forwards the message to our mailbox. Messages written from the app (for example “Report a missing product” or “Report incorrect data”) go to mateuszwyszogrodzki@o2.pl, the address also shown in the app. The app only opens your own mail app with a ready draft: the product name, the search query or barcode and the app version. You can change the draft before sending, and you send it yourself.

We use your address and message only to reply, and delete the correspondence once it is no longer needed for the matter, at the latest a year after it is closed. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your message (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Giving us your details is voluntary, but without an address we cannot reply.

Your rights

For the data we do process (technical request data, website statistics and correspondence), you have the right to access, rectify and erase it and to restrict its processing. Write to contact@getglik.com. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in Poland the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO). We make no automated decisions about anyone and do no profiling.

Right to object. You can object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on our legitimate interest (Article 21 GDPR). Write to contact@getglik.com. You can also simply switch the statistics off by blocking scripts on this site.

Children

The app and the website are not aimed at children. The app collects no data from anyone. The website only processes the technical data described above, the same way for every visitor, and cannot tell children from adults.

Where the food data comes from

Packaged food data comes from Open Food Facts and is available under the ODbL 1.0 licence. Measured glycaemic index values come from published studies, and the food card names the source. The index of packaged foods and of foods without a reliable measurement is estimated from composition and labelled “Estimated” in the app.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will also describe significant changes to the app in the store update notes.
